I am Julia Macintosh: a writer, editor, life coach, event facilitator and mad scholar. I grew up in Chicago and have made my home in Edinburgh, Scotland for the past 25 years.

My lived experience of madness includes depression, psychotic episodes and hospitalisation. Yet my understanding of these experiences makes space for social and spiritual contexts: there wasn’t something wrong with me, and “what was needed was what happened.” (Rama Mani)
My work is embedded with the following values:
- Authenticity – dedication to one’s own truth
- Warmth – grounded in generosity and kindness
- Creativity – playing with beauty and imagination
- Perseverance – embracing courage and risk
